Jessica Wimmer, PhD

Jessica Wimmer, PhD, is the Director of the Trauma, Stress, and Resilience Program as well as the Director of the Group Therapy Program. Dr. Wimmer is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in working with children, teens, young adults, and their families. She firmly believes in utilizing trauma-informed, evidence-based treatment that emphasizes a client’s strengths and systems of support to address maladaptive symptoms and behaviors.

Dr. Wimmer is trained in a variety of therapy modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT); trauma-focused CBT (TF-CBT); dialectic behavior therapy (DBT); parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT); acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT); executive functioning skills; and other specialized forms of treatment. Additionally, she is committed to staying current with evidence-based techniques to treat individuals and families with diverse needs. Dr. Wimmer’s practice focuses on providing individualized care to her clients, emphasizing creating an effective “toolkit” of skills to utilize across situations. She also encourages clients to fully utilize their sources of support, such as family and friends, school resources, and the community at large.

Dr. Wimmer is a graduate of Montclair State University’s Clinical Psychology PhD program. During her graduate school studies, she was an active producer of research pertaining to stress, trauma, and social support. Prior to joining CFI as a licensed psychologist, Dr. Wimmer accrued experiences across several different locations, including community mental health clinics; trauma-specific clinics; and an academic medical center (Charleston Area Medical Center in West Virginia). Further, she had previously been an extern at CFI, where she provided supervised care through the Weissman Children’s Foundation. In her ongoing practice, Dr. Wimmer is committed to continued involvement in clinical work in all facets, from the provision of therapy services; to the dissemination of important research findings; and to ongoing enrollment in professional organizations, such as the APA and NYSPA.
