Founder Story:

NYSPP Founder, Dr. Adam S. Weissman, began his career as a Quad-Varsity high school athlete, as well as a college athlete, musician, and perfomer, leading to opportunities meeting and working with sports and entertainment families, including Patrick Ewing, Magic Johnson, Howard Stern, Adrienne Brody, and Chevy Chase. Dr. Weissman played college basketball in Aix-en-Provence, France, leading his team to the National Championship in Strasbourg, where they beat defending champions, Paris, in overtime in the Semi-Finals, to advance to the Finals against power house (and host-city) Strasbourg, only to lose by 1 point in double overtime on two missed free throws at the buzzer.  Dr. Weissman’s personal experience with the highs and lows of college sports, the athlete or performer’s mindset and resilience in the face of pressure or perceived failure, jolted his interest in both clinical and sports psychology, leading to his diversified career as a Harvard, Penn-Wharton, and University of Michigan-trained Clinical Sports and Entertainment Psychologist. Though on a smaller stage, Dr. Weissman’s success and failures as a college athlete and performer, including falling short (in dramatic fashion) in a national championship game, affords him keen insights into the mind of those playing or performing under the brightest of lights, and enables him to connect with his clients from a place of camaraderie, authenticity, understanding, and compassion, to inspire healing to optimize performance. It is in this spirit, through his own lived and learned experience, that Dr. Weissman founded NYSPP, and he and his team have been privileged to work with many of our region’s top athletes, actors, musicians, and performers.
