Samantha Smith, Psy.D.
Samantha Smith, Psy.D., IMH-E®, is a psychologist licensed in NJ, NY, and Utah, working with children ages 0 to 12 years. Her office is located at 45 Carey Avenue, Butler, NJ. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Rutgers University in 2011 and her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Marywood University in 2018. Dr. Smith completed her doctoral internship at The Children’s Center Utah in Salt Lake City, where she specialized in therapeutic and assessment services for young children.
Throughout her experiences, she has worked with children presenting with a variety of difficulties, including trauma, anxiety, mood disorders, ADHD, complex grief, autism, developmental delays, and more. She is trained in various evidence-based treatments and assessment tools for young children and their families. Treatments she is certified in include Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), Attachment and Biobehavioral Catchup (ABC), and Attachment, Regulation, and Competence (ARC), all recognized by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network.
Her assessment services consist of culturally informed, developmentally appropriate comprehensive testing tools to help differentiate between overlapping symptoms among different diagnoses. She specializes in assessing ADHD, ASD, anxiety, mood disorders, developmental delays, and more using gold standard tools such as the ADOS and NEPSY.
Dr. Smith was the Psychology Training Director of a competitive, nationally accredited internship program and has served on the board for the Utah Association for Infant Mental Health (UAIMH), where she is the current President. She is an endorsed Infant Mental Health Specialist and Reflective Supervisor through the National Alliance of Infant Mental Health. Other affiliations include the American Psychological Association, NJ Psychological Association, and the Utah Psychological Association. She has presented at both the national and local levels on topics related to infant and early childhood mental health.
As an individual who believes that learning and growth are lifelong journeys, Dr. Smith ensures she stays up to date on all certifications and attends several professional development opportunities each year to provide the best possible services to the people she works with. She published an article on engaging in mindfulness techniques with caregivers and young children in 2021.
Her approach to treatment with the families she works with is warm, collaborative, supportive, and grounded in expertise. She views the caregiver-child relationship as her client and helps give caregivers and their children the tools they need to feel more confident and hopeful for the future.
