Ran Xu, M.A.
Ran Xu, M.A. is a predoctoral extern at the Child and Family Institute. She graduated New York University with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Creative Writing before obtaining her M.A. at Columbia University. She is now pursuing a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the Derner School of Psychology at Adelphi University. Throughout her professional career, she has worked extensively in Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) research and awareness, and with loved ones of those with BPD. She has also conducted research exploring online mental health help-seeking behaviors as well as emotion regulation and cognition.
Her previous clinical work consists of externships at SelfWorks Group and Pratt Institute’s Counseling Center, where she delivered psychotherapy to adolescents and adults from diverse backgrounds. Ran has specialized experience working with couples, groups, and multicultural and LGBT populations. She also has experience administering psychoeducational evaluations to adolescents and adults.
Ran works from a compassionate and client-centered approach. Though primarily from a psychodynamic background, she integrates CBT, DBT, EFT, and mindfulness-based interventions, catering her treatment to fit each client’s individual needs and goals and working collaboratively with clients to build lives worth living.
