Karisa Jaime, LMSW
Karisa Jaime is a Licensed Master Social worker (LMSW) who provides psychotherapy at The Child and Family Institute. She obtained her Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of California in San Diego and her Masters in Social Work from New York University. She is licensed in both the state of New York and New Jersey. She specializes in trauma focused therapy implementing her knowledge of an array of evidence-based treatments such as Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy), PE (Prolonged Exposure), and Motivational Interviewing (MI) into her practice. Karisa has been trained and certified in STAIR (Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation) which teaches emotion regulation and interpersonal functioning to individuals who have experienced trauma.
Karisa believes a strong therapeutic alliance is an important factor to a client’s success in therapy. To achieve this, she uses a person-centered approach that focuses on the individuals’ goals. She has extensive experience working with veterans and their families at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Beyond her trauma work, Karisa is passionate about serving children and young adults addressing ADHD, behavioral concerns, anxiety, depression, and social learning challenges. Karisa has contributed to research regarding veterans with PTSD most recently a study published in 2023 in Psychology Services examining their reasons for dropping out of PE.
