Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if CFI fits my needs?
When working with a therapist, it is important that you connect with one another. Our clinicians specialize in evidence-based treatments, such as cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and/or dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), which are research-supported treatments for a wide range of mental health needs. Specific information about the credentials of each of our dedicated therapists can be found here.
We emphasize the importance of clinical fit with your therapist, so we aim to connect you or your child with a clinician that is a good fit for you based on your clinical and cultural needs and preferences. It is our highest priority that you feel comfortable and cared for in working with your therapist to ensure the most effective treatment for you and your family.
Does CFI accept insurance?
While we do not participate with insurance companies, therapy services can be reimbursed by your insurance provider through out-of-network benefits. If you are interested in learning about what your insurance covers, you may call your insurance company to ask what is covered for an out-of-network provider for the services received (e.g. individual therapy, family therapy, or group therapy). All services are billed directly to the client. Full payment is expected at the time of service. You have the option to request a bill to submit to the insurance company to be compensated through your out-of-network benefits.
How much do therapy sessions cost?
While we do not accept insurance, we aim to provide services at a wide range of fee points in order to increase accessibility of services. Families may qualify for our sliding scale or “pay what you can” services, which determine the cost per session based on combined annual household income. Please contact our intake team to learn more about these options!
How can I submit to insurance for reimbursement?
During the intake process, our team will send you the billing codes that we use for out-of-network insurance reimbursement. You can call your insurance provider to see how much they may be able to reimburse you for services. Once you meet with your clinician for an intake session, you can reach out to our administrative team and we would be happy to provide you with an itemized superbill to send to your provider for reimbursement.
Can my/my child's therapist prescribe medication?
No, our therapists are not licensed to prescribe medication. However, we do have licensed psychiatrists on staff who would be happy to work with you and can prescribe medication if needed.
Does CFI have a psychiatrist on staff?
Yes, our psychiatrists collaborate with our team of therapists to offer comprehensive support for your family, including psychiatric evaluations and medication management.
How often are therapy sessions held?
Frequency of sessions depends on your therapist’s recommendations, your preferences, and scheduling and availability. The majority of our clients meet weekly. In order to ensure that treatment meets your goals, you and your therapist will collaborate and check in with one another to determine that your treatment is on track.
How long are therapy sessions?
Typically, the initial intake session is 1 hour long, and weekly therapy sessions are 45 minutes long. However, duration of sessions can be adjusted depending on therapist recommendations and your/your child’s individual needs.
How many sessions will be needed?
The duration of treatment will vary depending on you/your child’s specific needs. The clinician may be able to give a rough estimate during the intake session once a treatment plan has been developed.

Does CFI work with adults?
Yes, our clinicians work with all ages, including children, teens, adults, and families.
Does CFI offer neuropsychological testing or evaluations?
Yes, our neuropsychologists offer comprehensive neuropsychological assessments, treatments, and support for adults and children who struggle with cognitive and learning disabilities. We offer evaluations for ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), academic and developmental delays, disruptive behaviors, situational anxieties, cognitive impairment, and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Based on these tests, we produce a report that includes a cognitive profile, detailed recommendations, objective information about the patient’s functioning, and information that may help guide therapeutic intervention.
How can I/my child enroll in group therapy?
If you are interested in learning more about and/or enrolling in a group at CFI, please contact our administrative team via the form above to schedule a brief consultation call. Based on consultation call, the clinician will determine if you (or your child) is deemed fit to be a member of the group based on clinical symptoms, and needs.
If a clinician determines that your child can join the group, the clinician or administrative team will set up a 60-minute intake virtual meeting with you to gain a formal biopsychosocial assessment of your child as a way to tailor interventions and treatment plans to your child as a member of the group.
