Faith-Based Mental Health Initiative
Toward addressing the challenge of stigma common in certain faith communities, the Westchester County Faith-Based Mental Health Initiative aims to create a provider list of faith-affirming therapists to ensure that all congregations can connect congregants in need of mental health services with providers/clinicians they will feel safe with. WCF has partnered with the County’s faith leaders and the national “Soul Shop for Black Churches” movement to provide pro-bono therapy services to those referred to WCF via the Faith-Based Mental Health Community. Jointly, WCF and the Westchester County Faith-Based Mental Health Initiative seek to eliminate mental health service barriers to target communities (e.g., faith-affirming, underserved or underrepresented, historically marginalized) and provide direct access to faith-affirming and culturally-affirming clinicians who will provide appropriate and mindful care.
